Andy, I understand your reasoning. The fact is all the Universe proves God's existence, even the nature of his Godhead. Do you how I know that? Because it is part of Apostolic Christianity.
Any reasonable person looks at the things that are made and says, "Something powerful made this." All humans in ALL of history have, EXCEPT those in modern times who have been brainwashed by the Godless Enlightenment movement, who have been conditioned from early age to doubt the meaning of their own existence. Even by the philosophy of some to doubt the REALITY of their own existence. It makes them pliable, easy to control. They don't find a sense of rightful "place" even in their own living, since life itself is doubtful. It is actually a mass-insanity grown to the point it seems 'the norm.'
You are also right that Science finds, "natural things" but you separate God's power from the natural power that sustains the universe. Also known by scripture. (The worlds hang together by the Word of his power). I do not ascribe to the "super-natural" category to which you relegate God. Why? What is the difference between "constitutional and extra-constitutional"? The later is not constitutional, it has removed itself FROM what is constitutional. So the term "super-natural" has the tendency to make of God, something "unnatural" AND absent. Your microscope analogy (not being able to see the shape of a polar bear by looking into a microscope in a rain forest) about discovering God's existence is predicated upon the "size" argument. One of the silliest and most child-like analogies of God. The narrow view that God is a really BIG thing. What you don't grasp is that God's "energia" is not absent from a single atom or particle of matter, visible even in the view inside that microscope and that ALL atoms, particles, cells, display the creative intelligence which he stamped upon them.
THINK! How did you do that? You say, "I used my brain. That is what a brain is for." NO, the LIFE in you, the LIGHT in you, the Spark of God's divinity in you, via the first grace of BEING, of BEING a living creature, USED your brain to think. Your brain is merely the mechanism given you to make connection to this plane of existence, to connect with the material world. All the chemicals and enzymes, connective tissue, tissue, nerve passages etc., etc., etc., are present in a corpse, but the corpse does not THINK, because the LIFE is missing. "That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." Without THAT spark, that light, you don't experience cognition. The cognition of sentient beings is more a mystery to science than all the vast universe of inanimate objects and atomic and galactic processes.
The Western mindset, leaves you saying things like, "Is there evidence in the natural world for God? Perhaps, but such evidence is just as open to godless explanations."
Wrong.
The Godless have NO explanation for cognition and self awareness, they merely make pretense to.
The Godless have NO explanation for BEING (ontologically speaking) but they make pretense to.
The Godless have NO explanation how innate matter was formed, but they make pretense to.
The Godless have NO explanation how life was formed using innate matter, but they make pretenses to.
It is great benefit to those so hypnotized, who have been brainwashed to accept the "Science" for what is beyond science to show them the foolishness of their belief system. This is done in two ways. (1) by anomalous data (the things they can't cram into their small and rationalistic theory that disprove the validity of the theory. (2) the massive mythologies they accept as fact without using critical thinking, about which there is no TRUE scientific data, only mythology to paper over the chasm of ignorance. This requires of them "a leap of faith" exposing the Secular Humanist view as a religious ideology, instead of pure empirical science. I am a great fan of pure empirical science, I am suspicious for good reason for every "all inclusive" theory based upon it. Ontology is ultimately above and outside the confines of natural science.
You can't find the evidence of God in the universe because you have excepted the MYTH that he is removed from the Universe - and exist in some category called, "super-natural." Please show me the Scripture and/or Tradition that concludes that. Your problem is not about science, but about your own limitations of understanding the Biblical explication of the Nature of God. Yes, God is wholly OTHER, unknowable in his essence, but CONSTANTLY experienced in his energies. SO although God is not encompassed and limited to nature, he is not absent from one spark of natural energy or one monad of BEING.
In your hypothesis about the nature of God, you have to destroy the Apostolic Tradition, which says, "Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
Doesn't it frighten you a little bit, that you are a Christian who has reduced his understanding of God to some little personal passion play, who seems to find some hint of God's existence in some anecdotal stories of "signs of supernatural intervention." What did Jesus say, " Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." He was talking to NOT people of faith, but FaithLESS people. Please tell me what could be a greater sign and wonder than BEING, that is the Universe of THINGS and our ability to be cognizant of it. The IDIOTS argue God's non-existence while they use the power of HIS ENERGY to THINK.
